Energetic Hygiene
A reflection on energetic hygiene, everyday care for the spaces we inhabit, and when deeper support through Feng Shui or Quantum Space Clearing can help.
AROUND.

We rarely question the need to brush our teeth.
We brush. We floss. Some of us use mouthwash, interdental brushes, special toothpaste, electric toothbrushes. We do these small things regularly, not because something is necessarily wrong, but because we understand that care is easier when it is consistent.
And still, we go to the dental hygienist.
And occasionally, we need the dentist.
I have been thinking about how similar this is to the way we care for our spaces.
There is the everyday care.
Opening the windows. Letting air move through the rooms. Clearing clutter before it starts to feel heavy. Using sound, incense, herbs, prayer, intention, or whatever practice feels natural to you. Sometimes simply noticing how a room feels and responding to it.
These things matter.
In the same way that brushing your teeth does not become irrelevant because you visit a hygienist, the care you give your space yourself is not somehow less important because professional support exists.
It is the foundation.
But not every space asks for the same amount of care.
A quiet home occupied by one or two people may feel very different from a therapy room where people arrive carrying grief, fear, anxiety, pain or uncertainty throughout the day.
A medical practice is different from a bedroom.
A busy office is different from a private study.
A student residence, hotel, treatment room or shared workspace holds a completely different rhythm of people, emotions, conversations and experiences.
Some spaces simply have more traffic.
And just as some people need more frequent dental hygiene than others, some spaces benefit from more regular energetic maintenance.
Not because something is wrong.
Because the conditions are different.
This is also where I think it becomes useful to understand the difference between the ways we can work with a space.
Feng Shui and space clearing are sometimes spoken about as if one should replace the other.
I do not see them that way.
To me, they belong to the same ecology of care.
If everyday energetic hygiene is similar to brushing and flossing, Feng Shui can be thought of as the ongoing professional care that helps us support flow, balance and the relationship between ourselves and the environment we inhabit.
Quantum Space Clearing works at another layer.
More like the appointment with the dentist when something requires deeper attention.
There are moments when a space has been through something.
Illness.
Conflict.
Loss.
A difficult period.
A renovation.
An accident.
A change of ownership.
A move into a home whose history began long before you arrived.
Sometimes nothing dramatic has happened at all, and yet the space simply feels tired, unsettled or somehow full. The usual things you do may help, but not quite reach it. That is when deeper work can be useful.
None of these approaches cancels the others.
You do not stop brushing your teeth because you visit the hygienist.
You do not stop seeing the hygienist because occasionally you need the dentist.
Each one has a different role.
And perhaps energetic hygiene could become just as ordinary. Not something we think about only when a room feels unbearable. Not an emergency measure. Simply part of caring for the places that hold us every day.
Because our environments are never neutral. We affect them, and they affect us. The conversations that happen there, the people moving through them, the work being done, periods of stress or rest, beginnings and endings — all of it becomes part of our experience of a place. And when many people share that environment, the quality of the space affects more than one person.
This is one of the reasons I also work with spaces that carry a particularly high level of activity — practices, offices, shared environments and other places with a constant flow of people.
Sometimes the most sensible form of care is simply to acknowledge the rhythm of a space and support it accordingly.
Some things we can maintain ourselves.
Some things benefit from regular professional attention.
And occasionally, something asks us to go deeper.
Perhaps that is all energetic hygiene really is: learning to notice the difference.
